Upcycled Vintage Turkish Wool Rug Floor Mat Sets for the Saab 900 (1979-93)
It's no secret, aftermarket floor mats are a common weak-point in the overall interior quality of otherwise nicely finished/ maintained original Saabs. The list of decent alternatives to factory mats is only two or three lines long, and within that list theres only one manufacturer that mentions natural materials. As original floor mats have been worn, discarded, and become scarce, the replacements offered have failed to do justice to the car's originality and style.
I start by carefully selecting authentic, handmade wool rugs from the sweet-spot of being fashionable and/or interesting yet within the realm of economic and cultural feasibility for upcycling. This isn't done at random, but with an intentional vision for how the rug relates to the Saab's exterior/ interior colors, character, and vintage. I finish them with optional heel mats, upcycled from parts of original rubber floor mats - as both an artistic patchwork juxtapositioning of old and new, as well as a functional repurposing of the leftover or damaged/ discarded rubber mats. I'm using pure natural latex glues free of additives, and natural rubber backings which should stick to a clean car carpet well, in hopes the mats will dampen sound and vibrations, not off-gas harmful VOCs (they're intended to be a healthier alternative to synthetic aftermarket floor mats, and don't have a synthetic rubber/ toxic-glue smell) and stay in place with a long lifespan. This type of double-knotted, latex-backed, handmade Turkish wool rug can potentially last decades, and is repairable. *If you're serious about wanting mats 100% free of any and all potential VOCs, don't add the upcycled original rubber mat heel pad - as it likely has extremely low levels of VOCs (practically non-existent) as it's a very small section of floor mats that were made to be chemically stable and emit minimal VOCs, and I consider these levels acceptable and healthy. I expect them to function well compared to other carpet and rubber floor mats, and stay in place and have just enough cushioning and weight, but they don't have extensive road testing as that's beyond my ability. I'll accept returns for a partial to full refund on a case-by-case basis, and I expect you to return them if they're not functioning well or if there is some unforeseen issue with their fit or function.
